OUR STORY

Outpst was founded in October 2023 by Cooper Johnson in a college apartment at the University of Colorado. But the roots of the brand go back even further.

"I originally started Outpost (now Outpst) in 2018 as a high school project, selling stickers and water bottles. It fizzled out after a year, but I always had the itch to build something bigger. While working full-time as a sales engineer and finishing my degree in Environmental Studies and Business, I was gifted a sewing machine. After days of untangling thread and watching YouTube tutorials, I made my first fleece hat. People loved it, and within a month, Outpst was reborn." - Shoutout Colorado

What started as a side project quickly turned into something real. People resonated with the brand, and the demand for our gear took off.

Outpst isn’t just another outdoor clothing brand—we’re building something bigger. Were building a brand for the people, by the people.

  • Collections With a Story – Every drop we create has a deeper meaning. From the colors and patterns to the names, our products are tied to places, experiences, and causes we care about. Many of our collections partner with nonprofits or local organizations, and in some cases, we donate 100% of profits to a cause tied to that story.
  • Built With Our Community – We mean it when we say by the people. We run things like the Brimmer Bracket—handing over the mic to our community to help design products. We value input on designs, slogans, and even which causes to support.

  • Limited Drops, Lasting Impact – Our drop-based model makes every piece unique. These aren’t mass-produced items you can grab anywhere—they’re one-of-a-kind releases you won’t see again. 
  • Sustainable Mindset – We prioritize using remnant fabrics and mill ends to reduce waste. Many of our hoodies, sweats, and hats are made from leftover materials—giving new life to fabric that would otherwise go unused.
  • Rooted in the Mountains – Outpst was born in Aspen, Colorado, in a ski town community that shaped everything we stand for. We understand the lifestyle, the culture, and the people who live for it—because we’re part of it too.

At the end of the day, Outpst is more than gear. It’s a platform to inspire adventure, share stories, and make the outdoors more accessible for everyone.
